This Is Our Home
New Romney is more than a place on a map. It’s our home. It’s where we have raised families, built businesses, walked the footpaths, watched wildlife thrive and enjoyed the open countryside that makes our town unique. Once those fields are gone, they are gone forever.
We are ordinary residents standing together against a system where large developers can afford teams of consultants, planning specialists and legal advisers, while local communities are often left trying to make their voices heard with limited time and limited resources. We believe our community deserves to stand on equal ground.
Cockreed Lane Action Group was created because we refuse to stand by while decisions that could change New Romney forever are made without robust scrutiny and meaningful community involvement. We believe development should happen in the right places, for the right reasons and with the people who live here at the heart of every decision.
This is our town. This is our countryside. This is our future. Together, we’re standing up for it.
What We Stand For
Protecting Our Countryside
Once productive farmland is built on, it is lost forever. We believe the countryside surrounding New Romney is part of our heritage and should not be sacrificed without overwhelming justification.
Demanding Better Infrastructure
Communities should not be expected to absorb hundreds of new residents without the roads, healthcare, schools and public services needed to support them. We believe infrastructure must come before, not after, development.
Standing Up for Nature
Wildlife has no voice in the planning process. We believe the habitats, hedgerows and species that call this landscape home deserve proper protection before irreversible decisions are made.
Holding Developers to Account
Planning applications should withstand rigorous scrutiny. We believe every claim, survey and assessment should be carefully examined so decisions are based on evidence, not assumptions.
Fighting for Our Community
The future of New Romney should be shaped by the people who live here, not simply by those with the resources to promote large-scale developments. We believe local voices deserve to be heard, respected and given genuine weight.
